Sony has revealed the NEX-5R, the latest model to sit in its range of compact system cameras.
The camera features a 16.1 million pizel APS-C sized CMOS sensor which combines with a powerful Bionz processor.
A new fast hybrid AF for fast and precise autofocus is coupled with DSLR-like AF tracking for shooting at up to 10fps.
The autofocus combines phase and contrast detection autofocus methods to suit a number of different situations. First, phase detection AF quickly detects subject distance, then contrast detection activates to confirm fine, precise focus.
From launch, four E-mount lenses will be compatible with Fast Hybrid AF, but more will become available via firmware upgrades.
A touch-screen LCD at the back of the camera is complemented by a fully-featured control dial and Function button. A new touch shutter function is also incorporated.
Self-portraits
The screen also flips through 180 degrees, which should make shooting self-portraits handy. A digital level gauge has also been included to help keep horizons level.
A first for Sony interchangeable lens cameras, the 5R features integrated Wi-Fi for easily sharing images. Wi-Fi is also helpful for downloading new PlayMemories Camera Apps that lets you install new functions on demand.
Launch apps available will include Picture Effect+, Bracket Pro, Multi Frame NR, Photo Retouch, Smart Remote Control and Direct Upload. Sony is planning to provide more apps, such as time-lapse and cinematic photo in the near future.
The Sony NEX-5R price has yet to be confirmed, but the camera is expected to be available from October.
